This is a part-time position of 22 hours per week based in Bury St Edmunds paying £18,300 full-time equivalent.

InHealth Intelligence has been and continues to be a proud supporter of the Diabetic Eye Screening Programmes across NHS England and since 2011, InHealth Intelligence has grown to offer fully managed services across the country. To increase efficiency, we also built our own software system which enables us to adapt and change to meet the requirements our employees to achieve a better user experience.

We’re currently recruiting an Outreach Worker to help improve knowledge and stress the importance of Retinal Screening to those who suffer from diabetes putting a particular emphasis on hard to reach groups such as hard to reach communities and non-responders.

The successful applicant will be responsible for going out to the public and speaking with faith and community leaders with the goal of education therefor, we are looking for someone who excels when speaking with the general public and stakeholders. During the pandemic whilst ‘going out’ is not possible, we are looking for someone who can adapt their skills to liaise with the community in other formats such as the use of social media and virtual meetings.

Key duties

* Provide specialist insight, intelligence and expertise in the development and revision of the Programme’s Communication & Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and plan and contributing to its implementation and evaluation
* Improve the knowledge of the importance of screening within the diverse communities served through appropriate promotional activities
* With a specific focus on the hard to reach groups including hard to reach communities; patients within areas of greater deprivation and non-responders; assist the Stakeholder and Quality Assurance Manager in the development and implementation of patient/carer communication, promotional, participation and engagement activities
* To be a member of and assist the Stakeholder and Quality Assurance Manager in the implementation, co-ordination and support of the patient/carer and patient representative groups engagement structures/forums
* Support the Stakeholder and Quality Assurance Manager to work closely with Local Authority Public Health and Community Development Teams on promotional activities and campaigns that will lead to improvements in uptake and coverage with the areas of deprivation, hard to reach communities and other communities which are highlighted to have low uptake, coverage and/or high levels of DNAers and non-responders
* Advise on and ensure the Programme’s communications are appropriately framed and language, reading age and culturally appropriate for the target audience
* To undertake outreach work within secure establishments to improve uptake and knowledge of the importance of screening
* Provide specialist expertise and knowledge to the Programme on the cultural, language, ethnic and faith issues that may be impacting on attendance and non-responders

Experience and qualifications

* Experience of working within the Diverse communities served
* Partnership Development
* Knowledge of NDESP policies
* Awareness of general and cultural issues as they relate to Hard to Reach/Faith groups
* Awareness of the linguistic and cultural backgrounds of targeted groups
* Diversity and Equality legislation and issues
* Developing and maintaining working relationships with community/voluntary groups
* Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Diploma
* Quantitative and Qualitative research methods and statistics
* Training/experience of Marketing and/or public Communication/ stakeholder engagement
