About the Role:

We are seeking a Director to lead the Swiss Office of PoMA. They will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development and implemention of large-scale development projects in several international locations; managing staff and consultants; and providing clinical services to Afghan migrants. 

 

Responsibilities:  

Project Management: Direct the planning and implementation of international projects. Develop annual project work plan and monitor achievement of activities. Coordinate with project staff to adapt to the country and context in which the project is operating, utilizing a network of international consultants. 

Staff Management: Build strong and cohesive project teams; manage and supervise project staff and project consultants. Hire and orient new staff and consultants as needed. Coordinate and facilitate team meetings. Pay attention to group dynamics and resolve conflicts. Promote diversity and cultural tolerance in the team. 

Budget Management: Guide teams in project design, planning, monitoring and managing budgets. Ensure reporting compliance with grants and contracts. Work directly with finance officer (based in Kabul, language requirement) to meet applicable financial and regulatory compliance standards. 

Clinical Services: Provide direct clinical psychotherapy or coaching to vulnerable migrants in Switzerland, in Farsi or Dari. Develop trust and build relationships with migrant communities in and around Bern and Basel, identifying cases for treatment. 

Development: Manage strategy and foundational planning for the new office, establishing financial and compliance systems. Manage the development of grant proposals for development initiatives and for research. Coordinate fundraising to support humanitarian aid projects. 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: 

  • Master's in clinical social work and Masters / PhD in Clinical Psychology  

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical mental health or equivalent experience in international development, organizational development, management or related field 

  • 7-10 years of project management experience in international NGOs, non-profits, or equivalent 

  • Demonstrated experience with financial and grants management; including proposal development, budget management, reporting and working with EU funders 

  • Demonstrated experience effectively managing staff from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise 

  • Experience working internationally 

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing MHPSS interventions for Afghan populations 

  • Demonstrated experience providing psychotherapy and/or coaching to Afghan migrant populations in Europe 

  • Demonstrated experience in producing research related to conflict and migration 

  • Native Language English 

  • Fluency in Farsi and Dari 

 

Competencies: 

  • Highly organized, able to plan, implement and monitor large-scale development projects 

  • Willingness to work hours in line with international team 

  • Tolerance for frequently changing hours and schedules 

  • Willingness to travel to fragile and volatile states (Middle East, Asia, Central America, Ukraine)  

  • Ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with colleagues working in Switzerland, Afghanistan and internationally
