Our client, based in Kingston upon Thames, has experience with large-scale public entities and Tier 1 contractors as well as commissions from private clients. They focus on understanding and recognising their clients needs first, adapting their service and providing tailored engineering solutions to fit any infrastructure project.
They are currently recruiting a Principal Bridge Engineer who shares their ethos who will report to the Engineering Manager.
As the successful candidate, you will deliver innovative designs on all the bridge projects the job holder is responsible for and lead a bridges and structures team to deliver new projects for clients. Your designs must be innovative, sustainable and intelligent and must meet fee and client budgets whilst exceeding all stakeholder expectations.
Your responsibilities will include but not be exclusive to:
Deliver innovative, sustainable, efficient, safe, practical and intelligent structural engineering solutions on all bridge projects and other activities appropriate to the stage and type of project.
Prepare detailed design documents including F001, F002 & F003 for Network Rail schemes
Prepare detailed design calculations to Eurocode and British Standards for repairs and new build schemes
Prepare assessment reports and calculations to BD21/01 and NR/GN/CIV/025 standards for bridge assessments
Participate and lead inspection/examination works for assessments and repair scoping surveys
Prepare Work Package Plans / SH&E plans in preparation for site works when required
Support the Engineering Manager and Managing Director in the delivery and commercial control of projects including client reporting, programming, resource planning, commercial monitoring? and client presentations.
Undertake calculation checking for works within areas of experience
Support junior engineers and technicians in the preparation of documents (calculations, drawings, specifications and other documents)
Maintain excellent professional and friendly working relationships with colleagues, existing clients and other collaborators to secure flow or repeat work.
Actively and positively promote the company in all work activities. Attend suitable industry events to develop connections with new clients and to help secure new, interesting and profitable work.
Assist with editing and creating all marketing collateral (brochures, presentations, website, blogs, social media) under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
Liaise with clients and the design team to ensure that efficient and integrated structural solutions are produced on all projects which are sensitive to the design intent.
Maintain good, clear and proactive communication with all relevant members of the design team to ensure all are aware of project progress.
Attend design team, site and client meetings as required and keep accurate notes of all discussions.
Share expert knowledge across the team to help develop others.
Actively and continually update skills and technical knowledge through CPD.
Ensure that all professional CPD requirements are met every year.
You will have:
Degree level qualification in Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering and ideally educated to MSc / MEng level or equivalent
Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE or working towards
Extensive experience with bridge inspection, assessments and design schemes
Strong experience in delivering bridge design through Network Rail and preferably Highways England standards
Proven project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget
Extensive experience in rail projects in the UK (highways experience would be useful)
Previous exposure to clients including Network Rail, Tier One/Principal Contractors (national and local authorities would be an advantage)
Proven ability to manage employees and
Experience in managing Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation
Strong ability in various software packages including LUSAS and MIDAS, with strong experience in Finite Element Analysis
Strong knowledge and experience of the following: Eurocode, British, Highways England and Network Rail Standards
Excellent attention to detail
Strong written and verbal skills
An adaptable and flexible working style with the ability to develop and foster collaborative working relationships
The ability to confidently present ideas, opinions and solutions
Ability to represent the company on-site visits/surveys(sometimes in unsociable hours) in a professional manner
Previous experience as a CRE is preferable
You will need to have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites and carry out inspections in possession from time to time.
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
